Actually Free Page Numbering & Bates Stamping

Add page numbers to a PDF free, in any position and format, or legal Bates numbering with prefix and zero padding. No Acrobat Pro needed.

What it does

ActuallyFreeTools adds page numbers to PDFs for free — “1”, “1 / 12”, “Page 1” or “Page 1 of 12” — at any corner or centre, with your own size, colour and start number. Bates mode adds the prefixed, zero-padded sequential numbers used in legal discovery (ABC000001), a feature usually locked inside Acrobat Pro.

How to use it

  1. Drop the PDF.
  2. Choose Page numbers or Bates, the format, position and starting number.
  3. Apply and download.

Questions people ask

What is Bates numbering?

A unique, sequential identifier stamped on every page of legal documents — a prefix plus zero-padded digits such as ABC000001 — so each page can be referenced exactly.

Can I skip the cover page?

Yes. Set “Skip first N pages”, and numbering starts after them.

Can I continue numbering from another document?

Yes. Set “Start at” to the next number in the sequence.

Is Page numbers & Bates on ActuallyFreeTools really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no daily limit, no watermark and no paid tier. Nothing is held back for paying users.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Page numbers & Bates runs inside your browser, so your files are processed on your own device and never sent to a server. That is also why there is nothing to meter or charge for.
